I miss fashion in my life in the worst kind of way. What drove me to that? A year and a half ago, disappointed by how things went with some clothing companies I was collaborating by selling sketches, I said I wouldn’t go back in this domain again, so I’ve returned to graphic design, yet again. Domain that I like, brings me joy with each new thing I learn and that also brings me money to pay the bills or go shopping…but it ain’t FASHION. 😦
I’ve turned from a fashion designer to nothing but a fashion shopper. Touching fabrics, looking at the design elements, at the prices…all the things that I use to take in consider as a designer trying to bring on the market a product that had to be trendy but careful to satisfy a larger segment of future clients, good quality fabrics but as cheap as can be so the profit of the company could be higher…All these thoughts pass my mind and make my shopping journey harder…fabrics that don’t worth the final price, design elements that I find unnecessary and some even quite ugly.
If you ask me what I’m wearing… although I have a list of favorite brands, you will consider me an H&M fan …I think I have something from H&M everyday. From underwear to tops, trousers, dresses, accessories you name it. And even so, I have to admit, sometimes they disappoint me when I go shopping…especially when I see shoes or other accessories lying on the floor like I sometimes throw all the things I have in my closet because I can’t find that one shirt I wanna wear that day. At least I throw them on my bed and in my bedroom where there aren’t hundreds of people walking over my clothes/accessories. How on earth do you guys think I’d buy something lying on the floor?
Ok. I actually wanted to say something else…H&M and guest designers. Bring a huge name and count the money coming…see the “fashionistas” pushing themselves to lay their hands on anything wearing that designer’s name. It’s their chance to buy the name that they can’t afford otherwise. So it doesn’t really matters that the fabrics might be “weird”, the prints quite ugly, the designs might not be that special…you’ve got a Versace, Marni, Maison Martin Margiela etc. I love Versace, but I personally only liked two dresses and a jacket from that collection and decided not to buy any in the end.I didn’t like Marni’s collection at all or the accessories signed by Anna Dello Russo of Vogue Japan. I’ve only named the designer collections I saw since H&M is in Romania.
So…I’m looking forward to see the next collection by a guest designer for H&M, ISABEL MARANT. This designer’s collection shall hit the stores in November and I hope it will be the one collection to put me in the row waiting to enter the shop and buy anything with her name on. I am skeptical even if I love Isabel Marant’s autumn/winter collection that makes a perfect mix between rock &bohemian. H&M, I dare you! Prove me wrong and bring out an awesome Isabel Marant collection. 🙂
